Located in the Bidadari Estate, team Couple Abode was entrusted with designing a retirement home, referred to us by the client’s daughter. The brief emphasizes incorporating the homeowner’s favorite colors and items, ensuring the space feels personalized and comforting. A key element of the design is the inclusion of Peranakan graphics and the color green, both of which hold significant meaning to the client.
To enhance the aesthetic, our designer integrated ventilation blocks inspired by vintage Peranakan house architecture, adding a nostalgic yet functional design element. Addressing the home’s lack of natural light, we opted to remove the kitchen wall, replacing it with an open kitchen concept that includes a customized bar table, which also serves as a dining area. The kitchen’s design blends modern cabinetry with vintage Peranakan graphical tiles, creating a harmonious mix of old and new.
The foyer area features a custom-built cabinet and a full-height mirror that discreetly covers the bomb shelter door. This space is further distinguished by graphic floor tiles that contrast with the rest of the home’s flooring. The living room is painted in a shade of green, tailored to the client’s preferences.
The original two bedrooms were combined into one spacious room, which now includes a dedicated dressing area and a cozy lounge near the window for reading. Both bathrooms were redecorated with overlay tiles, embracing a full Peranakan aesthetic, ensuring every detail resonates with the client’s love for this unique cultural style.
